Former ISI Chief General Faiz Hameed arrested.

Pakistani military detained former Chief of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), retired General Faiz Hameed, in connection with a land development case.

The detention of a high-profile Army officer in Pakistan is very surprising and unusual. General Faiz Hameed was arrested on the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan: ISPR. Adding that multiple violations of the Pakistan Army Act after Faiz Hameed’s retirement had also been established.

The process of Field General Court Martial has been initiated by the Pakistani Army, and Rtd. Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd) has been taken into military custody.

Rtd. Lt. General Faiz Hameed served as Director General of Pakistani Spy Agency ISI from 2019 to 2021 and came into the global spotlight when he was filmed drinking tea in the lobby of a Kabul hotel shortly after the Taliban had taken control of Afghanistan.

The ISI chief is generally considered the second most powerful military officer in Pakistan after the head of the army. Faiz Hameed was also popular for being very close to former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan.
