Pakistan succumbs to a heartbreaking defeat against archrival India.
After a shock loss to the USA, Pakistan’s heartbreaking defeat in the T20 Cricket World Cup continued as it succumbed to a dramatic six-run defeat against archrival India.
Hurrying an inadequate 120, the Green Shirts could only manage 113 for the loss of 7 wickets as their run chase mysteriously, but also expectedly, derailed, conveying them on the verge of a swift exit from the tournament.
Pakistan was given two supports when both openers of the teams, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, were dropped by Indian fielders. However, Jasprit Bumrah swiftly kicked Babar, in addition to proving a nuisance for Pakistan all through the innings.
Pakistan’s top and middle orders contributed in double figures but did not last long. Although the run chase kept on ticking along, it was Pakistan’s game to lose.
The expectation was for Rizwan (31) to hang in till the end. However, when Bumrah returned in his 15th over, he got a wicket from Rizwan, which opened up the floodgates of wickets that kept falling, but the hits needed to get closer to the target never came out.
At the end of the game, Pakistan ended with 113-7, falling seven runs short of the target. Earlier, Pakistan pacers browbeaten New York’s cloudy conditions to the fullest, limiting India to 119.
The start of the match was almost an hour after with a delay due to rain and the sky was full with gloomy when India’s opening batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli walked out onto the crease.
Rohit threw the third ball into the stands for six to get India’s innings off to the best possible start, but they were forced to leave the field after just one over to take cover from another rain shower.
